Linesman throws puck into stands after Corban Knight scores first NHL goal

Corban Knight almost missed out on getting to keep the puck from his first goal after a linesman threw the puck into the stands.

When a player scores his first NHL goal, it’s not uncommon to see a veteran teammate fish the puck out of the net to make sure the young player gets to keep that piece of personal history.

That did not happen in Calgary on Wednesday night when Corban Knight scored late in the third period to give Calgary a 7-2 lead over the Anaheim Ducks, and it nearly resulted in Knight not getting to keep the puck. That's because linesman Lonnie Cameron had no idea what had happened and, in an effort to do something nice for a young fan, tossed the puck into the stands.

Oops.

Turns out the Flames announcers were right, and there was indeed a trade in the works. To get the puck back for his teammate, Flames forward Mikael Backlund traded his stick to the young fan.

That seems like a fair trade for everybody involved.
