David Backes scored a pair of goals in the final seven minutes on Monday night to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets, extending their lead for the top spot in the Western Conference.
David Backes scores without actually scoring
David Backes doesn’t even need to put the puck in the net to score goals.

The thing about that is only one of Backes’ shots actually went in the net.
With less than two minutes to play, Backes was hauled down in the neutral zone by Winnipeg’s Jacob Trouba, causing his shot attempt to miss the net by about 10 feet as the Blues captain was looking to ice the game with an empty-net goal.
According to Rule 25.1, that is enough to be awarded a goal.
25.1 Awarded Goal – A goal will be awarded to the attacking team when the opposing team has taken their goalkeeper off the ice and an attacking player has possession and control of the puck in the neutral or attacking zone on, without a defending player between himself and the opposing goal, and he is prevented from scoring as a result of an infraction committed by the defending team.
Here is what it looked like.
His two-goal effort on Monday gives him 23 on the season and there is pretty much no way he ever gets an easier goal than the last one.
