Things are starting to get a little tense in Toronto as the Maple Leafs start to slip back to the pack in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
James Reimer has a delayed reaction to this Radko Gudas goal
This goal probably wasn’t “OK” for the Maple Leafs to give up.
Following their 3-1 loss in Detroit on Tuesday, Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle described the performance of goalie James Reimer as being, "OK," an assessment that Reimer seemed to disagree with
James Reimer: "He said I was just OK? I thought I was good."
— Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) March 19, 2014 And then Reimer’s agent got involved in Twitter, before later pointing out that his comments were just a general observation and not about anybody in particular.
When the Maple Leafs lose, it’s chaos.
But Toronto was back in action on Wednesday with another huge game and it's a good bet that Carlyle probably didn't have a very high opinion of the goal his goalie gave up just one minute into the first period when Tampa Bay's Radko Gudas simply threw the puck at the net off of a faceoff.
Based on the way Reimer was trying to look around the defenders in front of him and his delayed reaction it’s a good bet that he never even saw the shot. Still, that’s probably not the start he was looking for after the mini-controversy that erupted on Tuesday.
Bad goal aside, Toronto's goalies -- Reimer and Jonathan Bernier -- have perhaps been the biggest reason that the team is still in the playoff race at this point.
