David Legwand trade: Red Wings acquire two-way center from Predators

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired a gritty, two-way veteran forward in David Legwand.

With Pavel Datsyuk continuing to struggle with injuries, Henrik Zetterberg sidelined for an undetermined amount of time, and Stephen Weiss still out, the Detroit Red Wings needed a center, and they've found one that fits their mold fairly well in David Legwand.

Legwand, a former 2nd overall pick, is a solid two-way player who’s good for about 50 points per season, slots in very well for the Red Wings on their second line behind Datsyuk.

Legwand hasn't been taking the primary tough minutes for the Nashville Predators this season, that job has belonged to Mike Fisher, but he doesn't take easy minutes either. He has a positive relative Corsi% and continues to be effective in all situations at 33 years old.

He fits Detroit's veteran laden roster, bringing veteran savvy to the table that most deadline additions don't. Legwand has 10 goals and 30 assists in 62 games this season, tied for first on the Predators in scoring with Shea Weber.

The Predators end up with Patrick Eaves, a third round pick, and an as-yet-unnamed prospect from the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate.
