Team USA advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2014 IIHF World Championship early Tuesday with a 5-4 win over Germany. They have Johnny Gaudreau to thank. The Southern New Jersey native had one goal and three assists in the American victory, and basically all four points were mind-blowing.
Further proof hockey fans need to pay attention to Johnny Gaudreau
Johnny Gaudreau is ridiculously good at hockey, and it was on full display Tuesday morning as USA beat Germany at the World Championship.

First, there was this pass to Justin Abdelkader that put the USA up 1-0 in the second period.

Then, later in the second period, there was this pass from Gaudreau to Matt Donovan that put the USA up 3-2.

Johnny’s just getting started, though. LOOK AT THIS GOAL.
Finally, for his final act, this pass to Abdelkader -- some sick hand-eye from the Red Wing there too, by the way -- gave the USA a 5-3 lead with about five minutes left. It’d be the eventual game-winner.

We don’t want to ignore the amazing second-period goal from Panthers prospect Drew Shore either, because it was completely on par with Gaudreau’s goal, if not better.
But Gaudreau's game was on another level on Tuesday morning. The Calgary Flames forward might be tiny, and yeah, this was against Germany ... but he's been doing this stuff for the last three years in college, and it's pretty damn fun to see it carry over on the bigger stage.
