The Oilers didn't take long to make a big splash in free agency, inking both defenseman Mark Fayne and Benoit Pouliot to deals only minutes after free agency opened at noon.
Oilers add both Mark Fayne and Benoit Pouliot
Only minutes after free agency opened up, the Oilers added two big pieces.

#Oilers agree to terms with defenceman Mark Fayne on a four-year contract and winger Benoit Pouliot on a five-year contract.
— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) July 1, 2014 Pouliot, coming off one of his stronger seasons as a pro, will reportedly make $4 million annually in Edmonton, on the multi-year deal of his career. He posted a career-high 36 points for the Rangers last season, including a career-high 21 assists.
Fayne, who was playing on the Devils top defensive pairing the last few season, will make $3.5 million per season on his new deal. The Devils had bought out defenseman Anton Volchenkov, which cleared up some cap room, but the Devils were unwilling to come up on their contract offer for the 27-year-old defenseman.
