J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider make Capitals defense look silly on two separate goals

Washington’s not having their best night in New York.

The Washington Capitals are in the midst of a typical trap game. The high flying Capitals squad is being completely manhandled by the New York Rangers, who have a 3-1 lead after one period of play. A strong second half of the frame combined with some bad Capitals defense gave the Rangers two of their three opening period goals after Washington started the scoring on a John Williams tip goal.

J.T. Miller tied the game for the Rangers less than two minutes after the Capitals opened the scoring. Miller's solo effort to get around the Washington defense was quite something, despite having a stick trapped in his midsection while he pushed the puck from his skates to his stick before sliding the puck past Braden Holtby.

Chris Kreider capped off the sequence of bad defense by Washington, who also made Holtby look quite foolish on the play. Kreider's swift movement from the backhand to the forehand caught Holtby before he could get the stick or a leg on it as the Ranger forward went around the netminder for the score.

The overhead shot does it a bit more justice as to how the Capitals defense completely missed their assignments on the Kreider goal.
