Alex Ovechkin scores NHL-leading 45th goal

The Russian superstar is dialed in.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Ovechkin is difficult to contain when the Capitals have a man advantage. When he's given a lot of space to work with during five-on-four, it tends to end poorly for his opponent. The Rangers learned this the hard way on Wednesday night.

This was Ovechkin’s 45th goal of the year and 21st on the power play, both league-highs. The 29-year-old now has seven goals in his last six games.

With 70 points, he's currently two behind John Tavares in the Art Ross Trophy race.
