The reeling Oilers blew a 3-0 lead and ultimately lost, 7-4, to the Hurricanes on Sunday, adding another embarrassing game on top of what has become a horrific year in Edmonton. At the very least, team brass can take solace in the fact that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is locked up for the foreseeable future.

Nugent-Hopkins, 21, notched his second career hat trick against Carolina -- a feat capped by his third-period tally past Cam Ward.

Nugent-Hopkins raised his goal total to 19 on the season. He leads the Oilers in that category.

Not to be outdone, Carolina’s Elias Lindholm added a hat trick of his own by potting an empty net mark with 1:20 left in regulation. He added two assists, as well.
