The mystery injury that seemed to hobble Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop was finally revealed at the end of Game 6, and it sounds incredibly painful.
Lightning goalie played Stanley Cup Final with a torn groin
WHAT. HOW.
After the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with a 2-0 win in Game 6, Bishop told reporters that he had played four games with a torn groin. Bishop said he suffered the injury in Game 2 in Tampa Bay, an ailment that would've kept him out for several weeks in the regular season.
Bishop only missed the following Game 3 in Chicago before returning in Game 4.
Whether that return was ultimately his decision or coach Jon Cooper’s is unknown at this time. Despite the injury, Bishop managed to hold the Blackhawks to only two goals in each of his final three starts in the series while coming under heavy offensive pressure. Bishop ended the playoffs with a .921 save percentage.
