Let’s go back to June 26, 2015. The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the board with the 24th overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Young center and Ontario native Travis Konecny is available.

They pass.

Back to the present. More specifically, Friday! Konecny is a rookie with nine points in 14 games. He’s pretty good! And he’s facing the Maple Leafs for the first time.

Gee, I wonder what he did.

It’s only fair to mention that Leafs fans just watched Nazem Kadri do this minutes earlier.

And they have Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander. They’re not lacking in young forward talent. But Konecny probably felt pretty good putting the finishing touches on what could end up being one of the best goals of the year in hockey.
