It’s been a rough start for Frederik Andersen in Toronto. A .891 save percentage to start the year wasn’t even the worst of his problems through the first three weeks of the season.
Maple Leafs goaltender denies a sure-fire goal with a last second pad save
Frederik Andersen’s best save as a Maple Leaf, no doubt.

Even so, Andersen has clearly made the biggest save of his short career in a Maple Leafs uniform with this absolute robbery of Zemgus Girgensons.
That desperation kick save at the last second preserved a 1-0 Maple Leafs lead over the Sabres to end the first period. Andersen was able to find the puck moving across ice through traffic in front of the net and get a strong push off to stop the puck on the goal line.
It most definitely helped that Girgensons had to settle the puck for just a fraction of a second as it bounced off his legs to his skates. A cleaner deflection off a Maple Leaf player in front would have given Andersen no chance to make the save he did.
