Blues, Blackhawks unveil throwback jerseys for 2017 NHL Winter Classic

One of them feels familiar.

We’re only a little more than a month away from the first Winter Classic in St. Louis, and the Blues and Chicago Blackhawks both unveiled their throwback uniforms for the annual NHL event.

The 2017 Winter Classic will be the first time the Blues get to take part in the NHL’s premier New Year’s Day event. And when St. Louis hits the ice at Busch Stadium on Jan. 2, they’ll be paying tribute to the inaugural Blues team from 1967.

Every detail (from the font to the logo) was carefully crafted to reflect those first Blues uniforms, according to the Blues:

The Blues’ Winter Classic uniform is a re-creation of the club’s inaugural look from the 1967-68 season. The gear features historically-accurate fonts and team striping, a ribbed crewneck collar, the vintage blue color and the original Blue Note crest from the first season, making this an authentic design to create a true outdoor game original.

Not to be outdone, the Blackhawks also revealed their Winter Classic uniforms on Wednesday. And if they seem familiar, you’re not wrong.

And here’s what they wore in 2015 when they played the Washington Capitals at Nationals Park.

Here’s what the Blackhawks site says about the designs:

The Blackhawks NHL Winter Classic uniform is inspired by the playing era of legends Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull. The uniform stands as an homage to the legends of the past while preserving the classic aesthetic of the franchise by using details from uniforms of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
