The NHL veteran struggled with depression.

Svatos, who was 34, had “codeine, morphine, and an anti-anxiety medication in his system” when he died on Nov. 5 in Lone Tree, Colo., the report states. It also states that Svatos had a history with heroin use, depression, suicidal thoughts, and “recent life stressors.”
Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene, according to the report.
Svatos spent seven years with the Avalanche after getting taken in the seventh round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He struggled with injuries throughout his career and finished his NHL days with the Predators and Senators in 2010-11 before playing briefly in Russia and in his home country of Slovakia.
The 34-year-old Svatos was living with his wife, Diana, and two sons at the time of his death. The Avalanche honored Svatos before their game on Nov. 8 with a moment of silence and a video tribute.
