Marc Staal almost accidentally blinded the most important player on his team, Henrik Lundqvist!
Henrik Lundqvist injured after being speared in the eye with a stick from his own teammate
The Rangers now are without their starting goaltender thanks to a scary incident.

In a play that looked bad from the get-go, Staal got his stick right in between the grates of Lundqvist’s mask on a screen.
Here’s a better look at the play, stick between the mask and all.
Lundqvist was lucky not to have had any serious injury done to his eye, as he was down writhing on the ice for a good half minute. The Rangers netminder played the remaining few seconds of the period -- in which he gave up a goal -- and then was replaced by Antti Raanta to start the second period.
The Penguins know all about goalies getting speared in the eye, as Marc-Andre Fleury got one below the eye earlier in the season.
