Sharks vs. Kings 2016 results: Joe Pavelski keys Sharks in Game 1 victory over Kings

Led by captain Joe Pavelski, the San Jose Sharks started the postseason up 1-0 in their first round series with a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday.

Pavelski had two goals in the win, and Sharks goalie Martin Jones had 21 saves on 24 shots.

The Kings got the first leg up on their rivals when a Sharks turnover in their defensive zone turned into a 2-on-1 chance that Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin promptly buried for a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, the Sharks received a power play chance and captain Joe Pavelski cashed in with a slap shot goal from the circle.

The second period consisted of gained leads that lasted for mere seconds. Brent Burns fired a wrist shot that beat Jonathan Quick to give San Jose their first lead of the series early in the frame. Forty seconds later, Jeff Carter backhanded a shot that careened off two Sharks into their net to restore the tie game.

San Jose received another power play and promptly gave up a shorthanded goal to Kings winger Trevor Lewis, who then left the ice as the Kings gave up a power play goal to Sharks winger Tomas Hertl. That then inspired this tweet, which has no relevance to the game but needs to be shared across the sporting world:

You get the idea: it was a busy few minutes.

And the scoring didn’t slow down. As soon as the third frame began, Pavelski wrapped around the net for his second goal of the night and the eventual game-winner.
