The San Jose Sharks have the Los Angeles Kings on the ropes with home ice advantage on the way.

Goals from Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture propelled the Sharks to a 2-1 win over the Kings in Game 2 of their first round playoff series on Saturday. San Jose now leads the series 2-0 as they prepare to host Game 3 in San Jose on Monday night.

Martin Jones was terrific yet again in net for the Sharks, stopping 26 shots. Marian Gaborik led the Kings with four shots.

Sharks captain Joe Pavelski picked up right where he left off in his two-goal performance in Game 1, scoring the first goal of Game 2 just 3:37 into the first period. Earning the assists were Brent Burns and Joe Thornton, their second and first of the series, respectively. The Sharks nearly got a second goal, but Kings defenseman Luke Schenn was able to make a diving stop with his arm to keep it out of the net.

Other than a few frantic chances at each end, neither team was able to grab momentum until midway through the second period. At that point, Tyler Toffoli and Milan Lucic both went to the penalty box and gave San Jose a 5-on-3 power play. Pavelski dished to Couture for the Sharks' second goal of the game for a 2-0 lead.

Vincent Lecavalier scored with minutes remaining in the third period, but it was too little, too late.
