Capitals vs. Flyers 2016 final score: Flyers drop must-win game 6-1 in embarrassing fashion

A bad night in Philadelphia for the Flyers and their fans.

In a must-win game for the Flyers, the Capitals took it to their Metropolitan Division rivals with spectacular special teams. The Capitals now lead the Flyers in the series 3-0 after the 6-1 victory on Monday.

Everyone knew it was going to be an emotional opening for the Flyers. After a wonderful tribute video and rendition of "God Bless America," Michael Raffl put the Flyers up 1-0 just 57 seconds into the game. Raffl tracked down a rebound off a Brandon Manning shot and put it home on the doorstep.

The lead didn't last long for the Flyers, however. Philadelphia committed their first penalty of the game and set the Capitals power play up to get to work. Washington's power play struck three times in the first two games, and Marcus Johansson continued the trend after getting a deflection off of a John Carlson point shot to make it 1-1.

The Capitals extended their lead in the second on Alex Ovechkin's second goal of the series. Immediately after stepping off the bench, Ovechkin unleashed a wicked wrist shot from the face off circle that beat Steve Mason clean glove side. The intensity spiked after the 2-1 Capitals goal, and Brooks Orpik left the game after what looked to be a normal hockey play by Ryan White had the defenseman in some serious distress.

Washington then added on to their lead to make it 3-1 in the third period on a fluky bounce that swung in front of Mason and eluded the Flyers netminder in front. Instead, it found Evgeny Kuznetsov in front for the glove side tap in on the power play. The Capitals power play continued to roll, adding another on the man advantage seven and a half minutes in from John Carlson, then another with five minutes left in the game.

The Capitals finished the game 6-1 with another power play goal from Jay Beagle.

The Flyers will have to play for their playoff lives on Wednesday, as they are down in the best-of-seven series 3-0.
