Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive in their final regular season game, the Bruins got on the board first. But it wasn't without controversy.
Bruins’ controversial big goal upheld because of poor camera angles
Blue line cameras in the playoffs may come too late for Philly and Boston.


Early in the first period, the Bruins flipped a puck high in the air to winger David Pastrnak as he entered the offensive zone. He gathered it, got past the defender and scored to put Boston up 1-0.

As you might expect, the play was reviewed for offsides. Every angle shown seemed to indicate Pastrnak was offsides, but there was one problem: none of the cameras were on the blue line, so there was no way to tell when the puck actually crossed it.

The officials upheld the good goal call due to a lack of conclusive evidence to overturn it. If the play was in fact offsides, there’s a chance either Detroit or Philadelphia misses the playoffs because TD Garden’s cameras aren’t ideally aligned. The NHL has, however, decided to use to blue line cameras in the playoffs for situations just like this.
