Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik will be suspended for three playoff games after interfering with Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta in Game 2 of their series.
Brooks Orpik suspended 3 games for interference amid Capitals’ playoff run
The suspension comes down after the defenseman made a dangerous play against the Penguins.

You can watch the NHL’s Department of Player Safety video on the suspension below:
The hit caused a lot of chatter on social media, and Maatta was injured and never returned to the game thanks to the interference.
Orpik was penalized two minutes for interference on the play, but the NHL rightly cracked down on the dangerous play with a suspension. Due to Orpik’s history -- he’s been suspended twice by the Department of Player Safety in the past -- and recklessness of throwing such a high hit to the head, the defenseman could potentially sit for the rest of the series.
The earliest Orpik would be able to return for the Capitals would be in Game 6 on Tuesday, May 10.
