Game 3 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders was as close as it was physical, as the Lightning used a dramatic comeback to come out on top with a 5-4 win in overtime.
Jonathan Drouin’s late return fuels Lightning comeback in Game 3 overtime win
Tampa Bay takes a 2-1 series lead.


Lightning winger Jonathan Drouin was the story, returning from an injury in the middle of the game to set up Nikita Kucherov's game-tying goal with 39 seconds left in the third period. Brian Boyle scored the game-winner in overtime for the Lightning, who took a 2-1 lead in the series.
After missing Games 1 and 2 with an upper-body injury, Islanders forward Josh Bailey made an immediate impact. Bailey picked up a turnover alone in front of Lightning goalie Ben Bishop and potted it for an early 1-0 lead.op
As it did in Game 2, penalty trouble quickly caught up to the Islanders. With New York forward Casey Cizikas in the penalty box for tripping, Lightning winger Ryan Callahan deflected a shot from Alex Killorn past Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss to tie the game.
Tampa Bay took the lead at 8:10 of the second period off of a face-off win by Tyler Johnson. Johnson's draw floated to the point, where Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman stepped up and fired a rocket past Greiss. The lead didn't last; Nick Leddy beat Bishop with a slap shot seven minutes later to knot it at 2-2.
Midway through the second, the Lightning lost Drouin after a massive hit from Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey. Drouin eventually returned late in the third period.
The third period followed the game script, with the Lightning and Islanders trading goals to keep the game tied at 3-3. New York looked set to win after Cal Clutterbuck scored the go-ahead goal, but Kucherov walked into the slot with 34 seconds left, took a pass from Drouin and tied the game. Tampa Bay completed the comeback minutes into overtime when a rebound off the end boards fell to Boyle, who tapped it past Greiss to end the game.
Game 4 is in New York on Friday.
