Stars vs. Blues 2016 final score: Dallas survives frantic third period to push series to seven

The series is headed back to Dallas after the Stars got lucky in Game 6.

Despite the Blues dominating Game 6, the Stars had them where it counted as Dallas held on to win an elimination game by a score of 3-2.

Brian Elliott was chased for the first time in these playoffs after allowing three goals in the first period on seven shots.

Two goals in 20 seconds ultimately was the Blues undoing in the first period. Despite skating well in the opening minutes, Mattias Janmark got a step on a St. Louis defender and was sprung for a breakaway. Janmark didn't miss on the high shot that beat Elliott glove side for the 1-0 score.

Vernon Fiddler doubled the lead mere seconds later, on his birthday no less! The centerman got right in front of Elliott, and off a turnaround pass to him from Colton Sceviour Fiddler got his stick to deflect the puck up and over the netminder.

Elliott was then yanked after allowing his third goal of the night, this time from Jason Spezza with 3:11 left in the opening period. A costly Blues penalty gave the Stars open ice, and Jay Bouwmeester's fall gave Spezza all the room he needed to toe drag around defenders for the 3-0 score.

The Blues were able to respond in the second period to finally get themselves on the board. Uncovered at the side of the cage, Alexander Steen jumped on a rebound that popped off the pads of Kari Lehtonen and right to the forward to make it 3-1 seven and a half minutes into the middle frame.

Patrik Berglund got the Blues within a goal nine minutes into the third. Jori Lehtera's no-look backhand pass went right to the tape of Berglund, who pushed the puck in past the right leg of Lehtonen and missed his sliding skate by inches.

The Stars survived despite being outshot 37-14 in the game and will play in Game 7 for the chance to advance on Wednesday.
