2016 NHL Awards: Drew Doughty wins Norris Trophy for best defenseman
This is Doughty’s first Norris Trophy win in three tries.

On Wednesday night during the NHL Awards in Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Kings defenseman was awarded the Norris Trophy for the 2015-16 season. The Norris is handed out each year to the best defenseman in the NHL, as voted on by the Pro Hockey Writers Association.
This is Doughty’s first Norris Trophy win in his third career nomination. He finished in the top three in the voting in both 2010 and 2015.
Doughty had only 51 points on the season, but led the league in Corsi-for-percentage at 5-on-5 with a 58.89 rate. With Doughty on the ice, the Kings took 537 more shots than they allowed. He finished third among defensemen in time on ice and was a big reason why the Kings made the playoffs once again.
Doughty is the first Kings defenseman to win the Norris Trophy since Rob Blake in 1998.
