Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane has been arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal trespassing stemming from a June 24 incident at a Buffalo bar, The Buffalo News reports. Kane voluntarily turned himself in to Buffalo police on Friday and could be seen wearing handcuffs while accompanied into the city court building by officers.

In addition to the criminal charge against Kane, he will also be charged with up to four counts of non-criminal harassment, according to his attorney, Paul J. Cambria. Previous reports indicated Kane would face non-criminal charges for the incident, but now the additional count of misdemeanor criminal trespassing has been added.

Kane is already proclaiming his innocence in the matter. “Without a doubt, he plans to defend himself against these charges,” Cambria said Friday.

Police released two reports last week detailing allegations made against Kane resulting from incidents June 24 at Bottoms Up, a local bar. The first report alleges, “While inside Bottoms Up nightclub, [Kane] threatened complainant and made derogatory comments to her. While outside ... suspect grabbed complainant around the throat and tried pushing her into his car.”

The second report says that Kane, while inside the building, “grabbed her by the arms and tried forcing her out of the bar.” Both reports declined to specify whether Kane was intoxicated at the time.

In December, the winger was investigated by police after a sexual encounter with a young woman, but no charges were ultimately filed.
