It took just 35 seconds into his 880th regular season game for Alex Ovechkin to net point No. 1000. Ovechkin has had quite a memorable career, and it’s only fitting his 545th goal helped him pass Maurice Richard for 29th place all-time.

The goal itself is vintage Ovechkin. The Penguins defense gave the Capitals’ captain space at the right face-off dot and he made them pay with a calm wrister that split Pittsburgh’s defense.

The Verizon Center, of course, gave Ovechkin a well-deserved standing ovation for hitting such a huge milestone.
