Taylor Hall’s much-anticipated return to Edmonton on Thursday went swimmingly until the third period.
Taylor Hall’s happy Edmonton return included an elbowing and a sucker-punch
That didn’t go as planned.

Hall, who was traded from the Oilers to the New Jersey Devils last summer in a blockbuster trade, was honored with a tribute video and a nice ovation from the crowd in the first period.
And then it went south.
Off a faceoff in the third period, Hall got a little too eager to jostle with former Oilers teammate Zack Kassian.
Hall scampered down the ice to join the play, while Kassian remained on the ice with a bloody mouth and missing teeth. Then, like a guided homing missile, he chased down Hall and sucker-punched him.
And chaos ensued. Devils fought Oilers. Oilers fought Devils. Ex-teammates fought ex-teammates. Dogs chased cats. Madness.
All the while, Kassian spat out some obscenities at Hall and the Devils on his way to the locker room (or dentist).
The final outcome? Not what you’d expect: Hall got a high-sticking double minor. Kassian got a two-minute minor for roughing.
... Welcome home, Taylor!
