The NHL announced on Monday morning that the 2017 Winter Classic at Busch Stadium in St. Louis would start, as scheduled, at 1 p.m. ET. Hockey players are creatures of habit, so the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks are likely thrilled that their pre-game routines will go unaltered.
It’s the fifth time the Blackhawks have participated in a NHL outdoor game since the league started the Winter Classic series in 2008. The Blues have never participated in one.
The Blues come into the matchup scuffling a bit, having lost five of their last eight games. The same is true of Chicago; the Blackhawks have dropped four of their last seven contests.
