Evgeny Kuznetsov is widely regarded as one of the NHL’s best wizards behind the net. We even wrote about it last year.
Auston Matthews dishes a ridiculous behind the net, spin-o-rama assist on Leafs goal
This kid.

So it’s somewhat ironic that Toronto Maple Leafs super-rookie Auston Matthews pulled off a behind-the-net assist against Kuznetsov’s Washington Capitals on Tuesday. The master learns from the apprentice.
The Leafs were already up 3-2 in the second period when Matthews traipsed around the net with the puck, looking like he was going to head to the other side. At the last second, though, he spun and dished an amazing assist to Leo Komarov.
The angle of that is just ridiculous. Here’s some other looks.
Matthews, who already hit 20 goals and was the hero in the Centennial Classic on Sunday, is headed toward the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year at this rate.
