The Columbus Blue Jackets did what they’ve done best over the last month: score first and score late.
Blue Jackets within reach of NHL record after 16th straight win
Columbus downed Edmonton to own the second-longest streak in NHL history.

And with that winning combination, Columbus now owns the second-longest win streak in NHL history.
The Blue Jackets extended their run to 16 consecutive victories with a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers at home on Tuesday. On Thursday, they’ll play the Washington Capitals at home with the chance to tie the NHL record of 17 straight wins set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1993.
If the Jackets do tie the record, they can break it with a win at home against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Columbus has not lost since Nov. 26 in Florida, a time span of 38 days.
They got on the board first, with leading scorer Cam Atkinson scoring his 18th goal of the season on the power play in the first period. It was the 11th time during the Jackets’ 16-game streak that they’ve scored first.
Edmonton rallied to tie it in the second thanks to a blast from defenseman Oscar Klefbom. The tie lasted only five minutes, as William Karlsson gave the lead back to Columbus with a power play goal of his own midway through the period. The Blue Jackets own the best power play in the NHL.
A turnover in Edmonton’s zone helped the Blue Jackets put the game away. Nick Foligno stripped the puck, walked right back in, and fired over goalie Cam Talbot’s shoulder to give Columbus a commanding 3-1 lead.
