Mayhem unfolded in Buffalo after Patrik Laine was lit up by Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe on an open-ice hit.

In a tied 3-3 game, Laine was hit and knocked to the ice by McCabe as the Jets’ forward was traveling through the neutral zone.

The hit sparked a huge line brawl between the Jets, who immediately jumped to the defense of Laine, and the Sabres as Laine lay on the ice in the aftermath. At second glance, it seemed that Laine hit the back of his head on the ice hard after taking the lick from McCabe.

You can watch the full line brawl below.

Laine was down on the ice for a few moments after the hit and eventually was helped off the ice, though was clearly woozy from the collision. The hit from McCabe didn’t seem to be illegal, as he caught Laine in the shoulders. The real injury seemed to come from his fall to the ice.

The Jets didn’t provide any new information after the game, but confirmed fears on Sunday morning: Laine has a concussion.

Laine has been the NHL’s most prolific rookie scorer this season, with 36 points in 41 games.
