As you open this on a Thursday morning in November, the last thing you’re probably thinking about is hockey. And, unless you’re Canadian, like some of you probably are, why would you be? It’s currently Thanksgiving in the United States, a time for rest, relaxation, some good food, and sports.

Hockey, at least, is taking a rare day off after a 15-game slate Wednesday evening. For one day, the troubles of a long hockey season don’t need to bother you as the quarter pole of the year has come and gone. There’s a lot that happened on Wednesday, from the Oilers making a 6-2 statement game in Detroit to the Flyers losing their sixth game in a row.
Instead, we’re going to list some of the things hockey fans should be thankful for this season. The season may not be turning out like some of you hope, but there’s always at least one positive.
