Connor McDavid colliding with a teammate is an accurate representation of the 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers

Self-inflicted wounds, man.

Things, to put it bluntly, aren’t going well for the Edmonton Oilers this season. Coming into Thursday night, the Oilers were the Western Conference’s second-worst team with a 10-13-2 record and 22 points on the season.

In a non-conference matchup against Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Oilers put themselves in a hole early with a 3-1 deficit at the end of the first period. That, however, wasn’t the worst part of the period, as noted bruiser Milan Lucic and captain Connor McDavid took quite a tumble early in the game.

McDavid was banged up just a tad from the collision, as he was seen laboring a bit to the bench, though he ended up being OK despite taking a tumble.

Still, the accidental collision feels like an almost perfect summary of the Oilers’ woes this season. Self-inflicted wounds always hurt the worst — we’re sorry, Edmonton.
