This minor league hockey goalie fight was more of a tussle than a throw down

The rarest of hockey fights doesn’t often disappoint.

Goaltender fights are a rare breed in hockey. They rear their heads every once in awhile, and usually to great fanfare as two of hockey’s most unlikely fight participants squaring off is a reason to get up and out of your seat.

On Saturday, the AHL provided us with a minor league hockey fight that was more rough tussling than an actual throw down. In a matchup between the Providence Bruins and Hershey Bears, goaltenders Pheonix Copley and Jordan Binnington dropped the gloves.

The pair came together midway through the game thanks to a line brawl that had sparked a fight between various Bears and Bruins players.

Copley and Binnington both skated towards center ice and exchanged pleasantries before agreeing to drop the equipment and brawl.

Unfortunately for all of you goalie fight lovers out there, it was ultimately disappointing as there were more shakes and shoves being thrown around than fists.

The crowd, however, seemed to love it.

Copley and Binnington actually played together previously for a brief amount of time, making giving this fight a bit more personal. Maybe that explains why they were so hesitant at throwing down with more ferocity.
