The NHL moved quickly to suspend Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba for a hit he laid on Ottawa Senators winger Mark Stone over the weekend.
Jacob Trouba suspended 2 games for check to the head of Senators’ Mark Stone
It’s the first suspension for Trouba.

Trouba met with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday afternoon, and the NHL announced a two-game suspension shortly thereafter.
When making the decision, the DoPS factored in Trouba’s lack of disciplinary history and that there was no injury on the play. But Stone never returned to the game and has a concussion history.
The hit in question occurred with 13 minutes left in the third period on Sunday during a zone entry by Stone. Trouba caught Stone high, in the head, from his blindside.
Stone didn’t return to the game, and the Senators recalled Casey Bailey and Max McCormick from the AHL on Monday afternoon.
Senators coach Guy Boucher was outspoken about his displeasure with the play, for which Trouba only received a minor penalty:
“It’s a clear hit to the head with the shoulder,” said Boucher, who was livid when Trouba was only give two minutes. “It’s one of the best players in the league and I think everybody saw the same thing.”
Winnipeg went on to win the game, 3-2.
