The Keystone State Rivalry goes outdoors this weekend, as the Penguins and Flyers take to the ice in Pittsburgh for the NHL’s lone Stadium Series game of the 2016-17 season. It’s not Beaver Stadium at Penn State, but Heinz Field will have to do.

Pennsylvania’s biggest rivalry goes outside for the first time.

Pittsburgh comes into the game with a potent offense, but a banged up defense after acquiring Ron Hainsey from the Hurricanes to patch up a blue line missing Trevor Daley, Olli Maatta, and Justin Schultz. Sidney Crosby remains the NHL’s leading goal scorer with 33 on the year, with teammate Evgeni Malkin following behind with 25. Matt Murray will likely get the start in net for the Penguins, edging out Marc-Andre Fleury.
The Flyers come in on a real cold stretch, which has continued since their 10-game win streak was snapped in mid-December. Saturday is practically a must-win for them, as Philadelphia is on the outside looking in at the playoffs. Michal Neuvirth is starting in net once again for the Flyers, beating out normal starter Steve Mason as head coach Dave Hakstol rides the hot hand. On display for Philadelphia will be rookie defenseman Ivan Provorov, who’s anchoring the Flyers’ shaky defense this season.
Puck drop for the outdoor game is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, but with rain in the forecast for the morning, it might be touch and go.
