John Gibson denies Rangers goal with sprawling save of the year candidate

Duck larceny.

The early story out of New York on Tuesday night was the acrobatics of a Duck.

We did not think we’d write that sentence today, but here we are. The New York Rangers hosted the Anaheim Ducks at Madison Square Garden, and the home team had the most succulent scoring chances in the first period.

Two of them hit the back of the net, but Ducks goalie John Gibson sure made them work for it. His best save came on a two-on-one led by Derek Stepan and Jimmy Vesey.

Automatic save of the year contender, in our humble opinions.

Anaheim finished the first period with a 16-6 shot advantage, but clearly Gibson was the main reason they hung on as the Rangers put their foot down on the gas pedal in the second.
