It hasn’t been the Avalanche’s year, to say the least. They have just 17 wins this year, are last in the NHL, shut down their starting goaltender for the season, and were unable to unload their biggest assets at the trade deadline, likely because the asking price was so high.
Avalanche player passes on a wide open breakaway attempt
Things just keep getting worse for Colorado.

We thought they had summed up their terrible season well when a pair of their players collided back in December. On Saturday, however, the Avalanche out Avalanched themselves when Blake Comeau passed ... on a breakaway attempt.
I have no worldly explanation for that. None. The trailing Colorado forward was defended extremely well by Patrik Laine, cancelling out any chance the Avalanche thought they had, but there was no reason to pass that puck.
At least the season is almost over, Colorado.
