Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo has been hospitalized and is in intensive care, according to The Buffalo News, after an “illness” sidelined the 28-year-old for the final few games of the season.

Okposo has been ill since March 28, but rumblings early on Wednesday signaled there was something more than generic sickness.

The forward is currently in the Neuro Surgical ICU at Buffalo General Hospital, the medical ward that deals with neurological injuries such as strokes, concussions, trauma, and tumors.

Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma admitted earlier in the day before the news of Okposo’s hospitalization broke that he was “very concerned.”

The Buffalo News also had a few more quotes from Bylsma before the Sabres’ home game on Wednesday:

“He’s sick and dealing with that,” the coach said. “It’s a difficult thing for him to be dealing with now in this situation. Very, as a coach and a person, concerned for him and his situation.”

“He’s seeing our doctors and done some tests.”

Wednesday evening, the Sabres put out a statement on Okposo:

“Kyle continues to be under the care of our doctors as he deals with symptoms from an illness. Out of respect to Kyle and his family, we will have no further comment at this time.”

We’ll update more on Okposo’s condition as soon as the news breaks. All the best to Okposo and his family.
