The Ottawa Senators did what they needed to do in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final. Bobby Ryan ended the 2-1 game in overtime with a real great individual effort to win a foot race in the offensive zone before putting the finish behind Marc-Andre Fleury and the Penguins.
Bobby Ryan’s individual overtime effort has the Senators up in the Eastern Conference Final
Game 1 belonged to the Senators as they bested the Penguins 2-1 in overtime.

While the end of the game was quite the rush, the rest of the time the Senators executed their system to near perfection. Jean-Gabriel Pageau had the game’s first goal with five minutes to play in the first. Ryan’s nifty behind-the-net pass was right on Pageau’s stick for the opening goal past Fleury.
It took another two periods for the game to get a second goal, as Evgeni Malkin’s skillful deflection finally bested Craig Anderson to take the game to overtime tied at 1-1.
Ryan’s game winner is Ottawa’s sixth overtime win in these playoffs in seven tries. The loss is also the Penguins’ first time trailing in a series so far this postseason.
Game 2 will be played in Pittsburgh on Monday evening.
