Crosby evened the score against Nashville, 1-1, late in the first period with the goal of the series. But ...
... you may not know it was the first Stanley Cup Final goal for Crosby since the 2009 Stanley Cup Final. Game 4, in fact.
That’s eight years, people. A lot has happened in the near-decade between Crosby Final goals:
- Swine flu ended! Only a month after Crosby’s last goal, too.
- The Deepwater Horizon spill happened.
- LeBron James won three championships with two different teams. In fact, he left and returned to Cleveland in between Sidney Crosby Stanley Cup Final goals.
- Water (or evidence of water) was found on Mars!
- We discovered the Higgs Boson. The “God Particle” was discovered and Crosby still hadn’t scored another Stanley Cup Final goal.
- Phil Kessel was traded from the Bruins to the Leafs and finally to the Penguins between Crosby SCF goals.
- Rey found Luke Skywalker on the lonely planet of Ahch-To 30 years after the Battle of Endor before Sidney Crosby scored another Stanley Cup Final goal.
- Nearly the ENTIRE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE HAPPENED BETWEEN SIDNEY CROSBY STANLEY CUP FINAL GOALS (Iron Man just squeaked in before that in May 2008 — but, dang, that’s a lot of universe still).
We’re afraid to think of what might happen between the next Crosby goal droughts.
