Carolina Hurricanes extend defenseman Jaccob Slavin on a 7-year, $37.1 million deal
The 23-year-old defenseman will be under contract until the 2024-25 season.

The contract is set to begin during the 2018-19 season and end after the 2024-25 season. Slavin has one year left on his entry-level deal he signed in 2015.
Slavin has just two years of NHL experience, but he has been a very solid defender for the Hurricanes. Last season, Slavin put up 34 points in 82 games and his 29 assists was tied for third on the Hurricanes. He projects to be a big part of the Hurricanes’ future on defense, which already includes former fifth overall pick Noah Hanifin.
Many consider Slavin to be an analytics darling, and he put up a 52.8 Corsi For percentage at even strength last season. The signing will cover Slavin until he is 30 years old, and will no doubt be a steal of a deal on a potential top defender for the Hurricanes’ blue line.
This move is just one of many the Hurricanes have made in a productive offseason. Carolina signed free agent Justin Williams to a two-year deal, and have added Marcus Kruger and Trevor van Riemsdyk in exchange for future draft picks.
