NBC Sports analyst Pierre McGuire underwent surgery to remove his prostate last week after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The longtime broadcaster announced the news on TSN 690 in Montreal on Wednesday and said he feels “fantastic” after a successful procedure.

“I had no signs at all that I was ill,” McGuire said. ”My work habits hadn’t changed, my workout habits hadn’t changed. My eating habits hadn’t changed. I hadn’t lost weight and hadn’t gained weight.”
He said that he expects to be back at work for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang starting in February.
Dom Emrick, one of McGuire’s colleagues, also revealed the situation during NBCSN’s broadcast of a Blackhawks-Wild game Wednesday night.
McGuire was diagnosed with Stage 1 prostate cancer by doctors in mid-November, then underwent surgery to remove his prostate Jan. 4. One of the most well-known hockey analysts on television, he spent nearly a decade with TSN in Canada before moving to NBC in 2011.
Prior to that, he was also a head coach for the Hartford Whalers and a scout for the Ottawa Senators.
McGuire is known for his “Inside The Glass” segments on NBC’s broadcasts, and he’s expected to continue doing them starting Feb. 10 at the Winter Olympics. Let’s hope for a quick recovery for one of hockey’s most knowledgeable analysts.
