With the NHL’s decision to skip the Winter Olympics, we’re instead being treated to the 2018 NHL All-Star Game at Amalie Arena in Tampa on Sunday afternoon. This year’s big event will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET and be broadcast nationally on NBC in the United States.

There will also be a live stream available via NBC Sports Live for those in the U.S. who have a cable or satellite subscription.

Over 40 of the top players in the NHL will be on hand for the competition, including team captains P.K. Subban (Central), Connor McDavid (Pacific), Alex Ovechkin (Metropolitan), and Steven Stamkos (Atlantic).

They’ve been divided into four teams of 11 players each that will play a single-elimination tournament. Each game will consist of two 10-minute halves of high-flying 3-on-3 action. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation, then a shootout will decide who wins.

The team that wins the tournament will receive a $1 million prize pool to be divvied up among the players. That’s over $90,000 per player on an 11-man roster. So while it’s not life-changing money for guys who already make seven figures, it’s still a meaningful chunk of change on the line.

Team Pacific won the 3-on-3 tournament in 2016 thanks to a 1-0 win over Team Atlantic in the final. Last year, Team Metropolitan topped Team Pacific, 4-3, in the final behind goals from Seth Jones, Justin Faulk, Wayne Simmonds, and Cam Atkinson. Jones is the only one of those guys who made this year’s game, although he’s been replaced on the Metro roster by teammate Zach Werenski due to an illness.
