Joe Thornton lost an entire section of his beard after getting into a fight

WELCOME TO HOCKEY.

It’s no secret in the NHL that Joe Thornton has a magnificent beard. When you think of a majestic hockey beard, you normally think of Thornton or his San Jose Sharks teammate Brent Burns.

What if I told you that having a beard has the occasional drawback when playing the game of hockey? Don’t believe me? Thornton found this out the hard way when squaring off against Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri on Thursday evening, as his beard became collateral damage.

Yep, that’s right, Kadri tore off an entire CHUNK of Thornton’s beard. Talk about gross.

The beard-acide came in the midst of a fight between the two, and you can get a clear snapshot of where Kadri came away with a handful of hair here.

As if things couldn’t get worse — or better? — Sharks backup goaltender Aaron Dell was seen holding the missing beard hair in his glove on San Jose’s bench.

So gross, yet so very much a hockey thing to do.
