It’s been a rough couple of years of hockey for Matt Duchene, but that doesn’t mean a small gesture can’t go a long way. When a young Senators fan holding a poster that said “I want to be just like you Duchene” started waving to the star forward Thursday, he offered his approval with a simple thumbs up.

A small gesture meant a whole lot to one fan.

Duchene’s move from Colorado to Ottawa hasn’t really worked out at all, but it’s still awesome to see the impact he can have on a young fan in a small way. That kid will probably remember the time that Duchene gave him a thumbs up for the rest of his life. It’s such a little thing that might mean a whole lot more to the person on the receiving end.
The forward has begun turning it around on the ice, too. Over the last 15 games, he’s put up six goals and nine assists. The Senators have even won four of their last five, which won’t save their season but beats going on a six-game losing streak.
Duchene’s Senators career hasn’t gone according to plan yet, but he definitely has fans in Ottawa.
