NHL Draft order 2018: Complete first-round selection list before picks are made

From the Buffalo Sabres at No. 1 through the Washington Capitals at 31st overall.

An 18-year-old Swedish defenseman named Rasmus Dahlin is the consensus pick to be selected first overall in the 2018 NHL Draft, which begins Friday night in Dallas, with the Buffalo Sabres holding the No. 1 pick.

But there are 30 more picks in the first round, including the Carolina Hurricanes picking second despite finishing with the 11th-worst record in the league in the 2017-18 season. Carolina had only a 3.3 percent chance of getting the No. 2 pick in the NHL Draft Lottery, yet here they are with the second overall pick for the fourth time in franchise history, and the first time since taking Eric Staal in 2003.

The New York Rangers have three picks in the first round, while the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings each have two Friday selections.

The entire draft is seven rounds, with Rounds 2-7 on Saturday. NBCSN will televise the first round, with online coverage available through NBC Sports.
