It doesn't matter that both teams are under .500 and bizarrely trailing the Baltimore Orioles -- when the Yankees and Red Sox clash, the hype machine fires up and money starts flying around like confetti at a wedding.

The weekend's focus for casual baseball bettors is on Fenway Park, where the long-boiling rivalry between the Red Sox and New York Yankees goes back on the stovetop.
It quickly becomes the most-bet event of the weekend with lovers and haters of each team getting into the action.
Game 1 on Friday afternoon sees almost even odds as Ivan Nova and Clay Buchholz lock up in the opener. The total opened at 10 and many bettors are gravitating toward the over-under line.
“There are OVER trends galore here as 15 of the past 21 meetings here at Fenway have played OVER the number,” said Mike Pickett of OddsShark.com, the lines provider to SBNation.
“The Sox have scored 25 runs in Buchholz’s two starts this year, the OVER is 6-3 in nine Yankee road games and its 9-2 in 11 recent Boston home games.”
Saturday is slated to have Freddy Garcia throwing for the Yankees against Felix Doubront. Sunday has scheduled CC Sabathia, who finished strongly in his last start, against Daniel Bard.
The rest of the Friday MLB betting schedule features very few significant underdog plays. Only Minnesota is greater than a +140 underdog (the Twins are +170 at Tampa Bay).
