Thursday's MLB betting action features several very good pitching matchups involving playoff contenders and candidates for post-season awards. Among them;

- At Citi Field, RA Dickey will try to enhance his Cy Young Award credentials and keep the Mets from getting swept as New York goes against Josh Johnson and Miami. As of Thursday morning the Mets are listed as -140 favorites over the Marlins.
- At Busch Stadium, Madison Bumgarner and the Giants, who lead the NL West by a game and a half, take on Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals, who lurk 3.5 games off the pace in the NL Wild-Card race. The Redbirds are listed as -145 favorites over San Francisco.
- At PNC Park, the Pirates, who own one of those NL Wild Card slots, will send out one of their recent acquisitions, Wandy Rodriguez, against Joe Saunders and the Diamondbacks, who trail the Giants by five games in the NL West. As of Thursday AM Pittsburgh is listed as a -130 favorite over Arizona.
- Down in Houston, Jordan Zimmerman, one of this year's more hard-luck hurlers, will throw for the NL East-leading Nationals against Lucas Harrell and the Astros. Washington is lined as a -190 road favorite.
- And in Detroit, the Tigers, who sit a half-game out in the AL Central, will send Doug Fister to the hill against Hiroki Kuroda and the AL East-leading Yankees. Detroit is listed as a -125 favorite over New York for the finale of that four-game series.
