White Sox vs Tigers Odds: AL Central Betting Up For Grabs

Getty Images

Does anybody actually want to win the AL Central? From the way the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers have been playing lately, it’s hard to tell.

Maybe the Sox and Tigers will give us an idea of who wants to take the weakest division in baseball when they get together for a four-game series starting Monday night at The Cell.

Detroit just got swept three games by the Angels, and has lost eight of its last 12 games; Chicago just dropped two of three games to the Royals, and has lost nine of its last 13. Not exactly what you’d expect out of two teams fighting to win a division.

As this week begins the White Sox lead the Tigers by two games in the AL Central. And winning the Central is probably the only way either of these two teams is going to make the playoffs.

Chicago will throw Jose Quintana Monday, Jake Peavy Tuesday, Francisco Liriano Wednesday and Chris Sale Thursday; Detroit will counter with Rick Porcello, Doug Fister, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.

For Monday’s game the Tigers are lined as -105 favorites, with a total of 9.5. But Bovada is listing the Sox as -120 favorites to win this series, based on the first three games.

Also Monday the NL Central leading Reds are -170 favorites with Mat Latos as they open a series with the fading Pirates; the NL Wild-Card leading Braves with Mike Minor are -110 favorites as they begin a series in Milwaukee with the surging Brewers; the NL West-leading Giants are -135 faves with Ryan Vogelsong as they begin a series in Colorado; and the Angels are -155 chalk with Dan Haren as they begin a series with the AL Wild-Card leading A’s.

Then Tuesday we get the opener of a big series in the American League as the Orioles and Rays hook up for the first of three in St. Pete. Miami +135 at Philadelphia -140, Total 8.5 - Wade LeBlanc (1-2) | Kyle Kendrick (6-9) | Matchup Report | SBNation MLB Odds
