Cowboys vs. Lions: Betting odds, pick, preview & trends

Dallas is an underdog of 3, but picked by the computer to beat Detroit by 3. Check out the latest Cowboys versus Lions odds and trends.

Ronald Martinez

The Dallas Cowboys have enjoyed success against the Detroit Lions in recent years with a 5-2 SU and 4-3 ATS record in their last seven games against them.

But the Cowboys are a 3-point road underdog heading into Ford Field this Sunday in Week 8 NFL odds action. And the OddsShark.com NFL prediction computer is picking them to upset the Lions.

With two of the league’s shakiest defenses and most explosive offenses squaring off in last week’s Dallas at Philadelphia game, most NFL bettors and experts were predicting an offensive shootout at Lincoln Field. Instead, the Dallas defense owned the day, leading the Cowboys to a 17-3 win over their NFC East rivals.

With the win, Dallas improved to 4-3 SU and 6-1 ATS, according to the matchup report. The Cowboys defense has now held opponents to 17 points or fewer in four of its last six games.

Despite passing for 357 yards, the Detroit Lions couldn’t get the job done last week in a 27-24 loss at home to the Cincinnati Bengals. With the loss, Detroit fell to 4-3 SU and ATS on the season. Detroit’s rushing woes have been an issue all season, with the team averaging just 91.7 rushing yards per game and ranking 21st in the NFL.

Dallas has been even worse in the ground game, ranking 24th with 83.3 rushing yards per game.

With two of the NFL’s top passing attacks taking the field Sunday, bettors should expect an offensive showdown in this one. That would coincide with recent history between these two teams. Six of the last seven games between the Cowboys and Lions have gone OVER the posted total, including each of the last four.

This week’s total was set at 51, according to sportsbooks such as 5Dimes.eu.

Both of these teams play in a very similar way, passing a lot on offense and dealing with inconsistencies on defense. As a result, this should be a good game that could go either way.

But with Dallas playing better on defense as of late and looking like a complete team since that close loss to Denver, we like the Cowboys to pull off their second consecutive road upset.

PICK: Dallas +3.0 | Computer Prediction: 29-26 Dallas
